Of course, it’s not always easy travelling with a disability, but when I’m surrounded by such natural beauty, it all seems worth it. Every twist and turn in the road reveals something new and wonderful, and I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.I can’t wait to explore the landscapes of County Durham, North East England.

My trusty mobility scooter and I will be exploring this area in September. We’ll be staying at The Old Vicarage Hotel in Croft on Tees, within easy reach of all that this beautiful landscape has to offer.

From there we will venture

into open countryside, to take in all that this special region has to offer. I’m lucky because my brother is accompanying me on this trip too, so we can explore further afield.

We plan to visit some beautiful castles and ruinous abbeys, as well as soak up the coastal atmosphere of places such as Saltburn-by-the-Sea.

We will also take in Durham city itself, with its stunning Norman cathedral and castle perched on a rocky outcrop. With so much to experience, I don’t know where to begin!

I’m looking forward to spending time relaxing by the hotel pool after my long days exploring the area’s many attractions. It’s sure to be a holiday full of ups and downs!

Durham is a city in the North East of England and is the county town of County Durham. It has a history going back to Anglo-Saxon times, where it was at one point the capital of the Kingdom of Northumbria and was briefly the seat of the Viceroy of Ireland. Its cathedral dates from 1093 and its castle from 1135. In 1640, during the English Civil War, the Parliamentarians besieged the Royalist garrison, and in doing so sent cannonballs into some of Durham’s historic buildings. This event resulted in damage to a number of buildings including the cathedral which have been faithfully restored!
